Grandview Public School (GVPS) is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 3 school. Our school has a student population of approximately 327 students. It has always been GVPS’ goal to provide interesting, challenging, and rewarding programming experiences for children within an understanding school setting. This is of utmost importance in promoting learning success, and thus we sincerely strive to maintain a close relationship between the home and the school. Parental involvement in a child’s education and a close relationship between the home and the school sets the stage for success and can only be to the advantage of all concerned.
The Kindergarten children attend classes on a full day, every day basis. GVPS has five blended JK/SK classes. Within the guidelines of the Ontario Ministry of Education Kindergarten Program, the teachers develop programs to meet the diverse and constantly growing and changing needs of their students.
Within the curriculum guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education, teachers develop programs in all areas to meet the diverse needs of students. At GVPS, the classroom teacher is primarily responsible for providing appropriate programs for the students in their class. All classes receive a minimum of two physical education periods and a library period during a five-day cycle.
The objective of the resource program is to provide immediate and appropriate intervention enabling students to progress to the best of their ability. For individual students, this may mean the establishment of modified programs within the classroom or short periods of resource withdrawal for assistance from the Special Education teachers.
Extra-curricular activities are an extension of the academic program and provide students the opportunity to become involved in a variety of interesting and valuable experiences. All students are encouraged to become involved and the extra time and effort on behalf of the staff in providing these programs is much appreciated.
